Layout / When you step outside your comfort zone

So I've made another 'quick' layout to go in my 9 x 12 album using Hip Kit September kit. Nothing but fun, just experimenting with papers, techniques and design.

I struggle to step out of my creativity comfort zone.
See that fringing... I was fearful and doubted  I could make that fringing look as good as some those other fabulous scrappers out there. For reason of 'what others might say', "this page is going to go belly up if I do that" I  admire all those new techniques from a distance.

Looking from a distance is only so much fun. Sometimes I need to remind myself to just take a baby step and try it just once.  Bit like encouraging my boys to start reading  Diary of whimpy kid.  ("Its an infection caused by a splinter that was left untreated"- seriously these two boys in this story have me laughing out loud and eagerly anticipating the next adventure. ) Start with chapter one and see if you like it.  An hour past lights out and their still reading the story.

Now I find myself trying to put fringing onto each project i make. All it took was one small step outside my creativity comfort zone.
Let go of those fears, be brave and try something new.
I did!

Wanted: A Long weekend

Ok, technically that is not going to happen. All Long weekends have been used up till Jolly Ol big fella in his red suit visits.

Life can be plain exhausting at times. All I need is a big chunk of sleep and some paper and glue.

Solution to filling my 9 x 11 album

Please tell me I am not alone in the fact, that you buy pretty new supplies, because, well, you plain cant resist. It arrives on your doorstep. "WOW, its prettier than I even imagined!"
Then you hoard it away, to collect dust, for a few years.
All because your waiting for the 'special' creation to use it on.

This album has sat in the house for a few years. Its the most prettiest album I've had. I have been full of doubts of  how to fill it.
I know, bit silly right. Make pretty layouts and put them in. Duh!
But the size layouts I normally create is 12 x12. So it seems odd to create 9 x 11 layouts.

My solution was to prove a little point to myself.

I have always wanted to be able to create layouts quicker. Especially when I have a creativity itch, not much time and not feeling like the 'big' page.
This size will teach me to be quick when time is limited and to create because I want to without concerning myself about those thoughts "what if people dont like it?", "but it doesnt show much technique or texture"... all those aside. I am fulfilling a creativity itch.

I have always had the thought that scrapbooking had to be done at certain way. An expensive way too. As the saying goes "There is not right or wrong to create a project".
I had some large sketch book paper pads at home and decided I would cut the paper to 9 x 11 to create my page. I want the page to quick, so i wont be doing a lot of mixed media. So the light weight of the paper pad will be sufficient. If the paper does start to become to buckled I can always back the paper with some left over scraps.
Its ok to use sketch book paper from time to time instead of regular cardstock.

I see alot of awesome ideas from Instagram and pinterest and want to try them. Bit like walking into the candy store and wanting one of everything please! When it comes to trying a layout idea or paper technique I get a little shy with the 12 x 12 page. By having the 9 x 11 page i don't feel as shy to give it whirl.
I finally had a go at fringes on a page. Oh I am in love with the fringe! Why havent I tried is early. Ah, those fears and doubts. Who would think a great big 12 x 12 page can make you fearful?

Its a another great way to use the bit and pieces from a kit. I always have leftovers from my Hip Kit club kit, and struggle to put the pieces into my stash, there so pretty!  I just want to do one more project with the kit. We all experience not having enough to create a full project, but there is enough for a quick and easy 9 x 11 page!

Rediscovering the album as given me fresh desire to fill it with prettiness, regardless of how many likes, or comments I get. After all, I am fulfilling my creativity itch!

Five things

 1. The weekend is almost here. The kids are going be so thankful, and their mother of course. First thing to do is sleep-in. Kids I hope you got the memo!!
Sometimes a big chunk of sleep can solve many miseries.

2. Dear Me, Please just make pretty things because your freezing beautiful moments. Don't worry yourself about how many comments and how many 'likes' you get on Instagram. Create because you love you. Love the thirty- something me.

3. I am learning more and more to be positive. "If life gives you Lemons make Lemonade" . Being around negative people and objects zaps your energy. The power of positivety moves mountains.

4. The best decision I made a few weeks ago, when I was at breaking point, was to only go to town once a week. I am more focused as a mother and staying on top of my to-do list, not to mention the creativity that happens!

5. Time to do something creativity without feeling guilty. Down time recharges and renews.

Mini Album / Parenthood.

There is no secret. Parenthood can be hard slog.  The demands of children can be challenging. Some seconds more than others. We can go from the giggling, having a grand ol time, to tears. All within a millie second. Or maybe its because Mum just made a coffee, that'll do it!

We can go from being on time to make the bus for school but within a second we have no hope getting there, because  someone decides to have a drink of milk only to spill the glass of milk all over them and need new school clothes.

But we love them dearly.  We are so blessed. My heart breaks for those we will not be able to experience the joy we know.

Some days you feel just plain flat. You feel like you'll just loose it, if you hear "Mum, he broke my Lego my creation..." Regardless, how big your bags are under eyes, how sore your throat is and how greasy your hair is.
We must continue on.
But be kind to yourself.  Your doing the best job you can.

Regardless of the snotty noses, you love them unconditional and would never change a thing.
Life would not be same without your the kids arguments and Lego all over the floor.

Planning out loud... cause its fun!

Sheesh... I have two beautiful  planners, that need some inside prettiness. Why else do we planners?  But I am having too many "what if i did this with the Kikki-k planner and this with the Carpe Diem planner?"
If I could just make a decision and get on with it planning.

One: I want a planner to document my week, to-do's, crafty commitments and general notes.
I want to use this as a planner, so I can look back at the prettiness  and see what happen that week/month/day. I love my to-do lists, The truth is, if its not written down, it doesn't get done. Not internationally. The old noggin of mine is not reliable.

Do I just use this Kikki-k planner for planning and lists?
Do I add a section for memorabilia and photos?

Two: I have wanted to do a project - life style album of me. My daily life. Put photos of me there, as scary  and self critical as I am, But I want the kids to be able see photos of me printed in an album. I want them to see what I was like in my thirty plus and plus and plus years.
To put my memorabilia there. All those super cute little notes the kids draw and leave for me. I guess it would be more a memory planner crossed with project-life?

Do I use the, Carpe Diem planner? those 6 x 8 simple story page projectors fit in there perfectly.
Do I use a 9 x 12 inch album that I already have, for "My daily project-life?"
Do I just put a section in my Kikki-k planner for Memory planning? However, the Kikki-k planner will fill up fast.
Do I purchase a 6 x 8 simple stories album? Mind you, I am trying to use what supplies I already have without using coin.

Three: I want to write about my thoughts, the good days and bad days. I want to record my daily affirmations.

Perhaps a journal from spotlight will suffice?

The most important thing is, that I document me and my life. But its a bit like when you  take the training wheels off your child's  bike for the first time. Their fearful. Their wobbly, they fall. But they know they must get back on the bike and peddle. Practice and practice. In no time they've got it. They got over their fears and wobbliness. I think I need to be like that child. Just start with the planner. Yes it will be wobble at first, while I work out what will work and not work. But I need just start. Practice?
After all, there is no right or wrong way to use planners.

When the exhaustion takes over.

For the last few weeks, I have felt like a big balloon that has be blown up so big that if it touched one more object it would pop.

That balloon pop this week. Now, what I mean by pop. Massive migraine. Your body sometimes has a funny old way of releasing exhaustion, uh!

I kept plodding along each day, trying so very hard to keep up with  life. But after bawling to my sweet husband late one night,  not a pretty sight, I realised that i need to prioritize my to-do's and do the simple things each day. Just one or two things.

I hadn't been adding in much self-care time. I wasn't treating myself nicely. My expectations were to high, especially when I can't even keep my head above water at the moment.

Thats why I love my planners. I can stick pretty things in and make new dividers when there just isn't enough time, or your plain exhausted.. . small steps.

Time to show some patience and gentleness to myself I think.

Art Journal: Dwell

Lets be honest. The last few weeks I have felt very ho-hum. A little unmotivated with the simply things. Not finding the joy in motherhood. So I bought a value pack of Tim-Tams. Never mind a smaller pack would been far better for the hips. I hid them in the fridge from little fingers and snuck one, or two or three in when they went to bed and then quickly shoveled in when i hear a little someone hop up for the loo.
Motherhood joy resolved.

I even enjoyed a little play in my Art journal.

Oh it was a wonderful feeling. Release my emotion and just paint without a care in the world.  But what it also did, was make me stop. Concentrate on my breathing. Let out all those negatives thoughts of not feeling good enough, or shes got a pretty dress than me or there IG account is far better than mine .

Art Journaling is a beautiful place for me. To refocus and regroup myself with positivey
Its not just any art journal, its a positive art journal.

Mini Album / Tips to get you started.

I am just loving this little mini album. Spending just 30 miuntes a day documenting Me!
Mind you, its a very good distraction when you need to forget about the ironing pile and the vacuuming. (but first scrapping, were all guilty aren't we?)

I can try out new design ideas on a small scale, whilst sticking pretty things down.
Its alot of fun.

When I started this little album, I had no clue. I fluffed around for a long time, way over my 30 minutes.
I felt like that little girl in the shoe shop, looking at this sparkly pair of pointed toe flats, holding it and admiring the shimmer.  Then looked up and saw another pair.  These ones where teal with white polka dots and where so comfortable. I wanted both. In fact, one of everything in every colour would suffice. Never mind I would need that dream walk in wardrobe. Every girls dream.

Sometimes the hardest part to Mini Album is to start.

Here's 3 little tips to help you get started on a mini album.

1. Have a theme in mind.
Last year I participated in the #31minutesfor31days with Kellie Winnell. The album I created is still one of favorites of my Missy Moo. But this year, I struggled to come up with a theme.
Thankfully Kelli posted on her Instagram account a little photo challenge all about the home from Little Paper Projects.
There are so many monthly photo challenges. There a great idea to get you started on a theme if your stuck.

2. Create a little kit from your stash
Its so easy to get overwhlemed with what to do put in your album. I suggest you go through your stash of papers and embellishments and put into a basket a little stash of goodies that will go with your theme of the album. Think also about if you want to a little stamps or some mists. Have those near by as you create.

3. Decide what you are going to create your album in.
You dont have to have  a little ring bind album, like the Insta albums. There are a lot of You Tube tutorials and online classes that can show you how to make a little album.

You will love you little Mini Album. Trust me. You will.
